is (x**2-1)/(x-1) a continuous function?

is (x**2-1)/(x-1) a continuous function?  Does the denomonator factor out to give x+1, which is continuous?

y=(x^2-1) /(x-1)

=(x-1)*(x+1) / (x-1)

y=x+1
