set this up as a proportion

36/6 = x/8

solve for x

6=1/8x

divide by 1/8

x=48

Another way to look at this is to find out how many papers each teacher grades per hour.  If 6 teachers grade 36 papers

each teacher grades 36 papers divided by 6 teachers or 6 papers

6 papers per teacher times 8 teachers instead of 6 gives us the same answer. 48 papers for 8 teachers.
