4x-7y=25 8x+3y=-1 -2(4x-7y=25) -8x+14y=-50 8x+3y=-1 0x+17y=-51 17y=-51 divide by 17, y=-3. plug 3 for y in any of the equations: doesnt matter which one. 8x+3(-3)=-1 8x-9=-1 8x=8 x=1 answers are x=1,y=-3
