write an equation for the line perpendicular to MN that contains point P.

example: MN:y=2/3x,P(6,6)

y=2/3x   P(6,6)

m=3/2

y-y1=m(x-x1)

y-6=-3/2(x-6)

y+2x=-8, y=-2x-8, so slope=-2. Perpendicular slope is ½ (that is, -1/(-2)).

If the perpendicular passes through P(4,4) then:

y-4=½(x-4), y=½x-2+4=½x+2, which can be written 2y=x+4 or x-2y+4=0.
