set up a proportion first.

for this type of problem you write the proportion like this:   x/10,000 = 6.13/100

So you won't forget, here's the formula: part/whole = percent/100

Now cross multiply: x/10,000 = 6.13/100

                                 x*100 = 6.13 * 10,000

                                  100x = 61300

Divide each side by 100

 100x/100 = 61300/100

              x = 613

So, 6.13% of $10,000 is $613.

The outcome is not always the percent without the decimal, but this one was  because we were working with zeros.
