A universal set is often defined as the "pool" of elements from which other specified sets are drawn. These other sets are called subsets of the universal set. For example, a universal set could be an infinite set, such as all positive odd integers. So no subset could contain any even numbers. All subsets in relation to this universal set must consist solely of odd numbers.
