 A ribbon 84 cm long is cut into 2 pieces. One piece is twice as long as the other piece. How long is the shorter piece. Please show work.

Let shorterpiece = x cm

longer piece = twice the shorter piece

x + 2x = 84 cm          [ Given  ]

3x = 84

x = 84/3

x = 28 cm

shorter piece length = 28cm
