2007:  Salary RS 12000

.

2008:  10% increase.  New salary is 110% of old salary.

Question:  What is 110% of 12000?

"what" means x

"is" means =

"%" means /100

"of" means *

x = 110/100 * 12000

x = 13200

.

2009:  10% increase.  New salary is 110% of old salary.

What is 110% of 13200?

x = 110/100 * 13200

x = 14520

Answer:  RS 14,520
