12500=1000x+y, so y=12500-1000x;

17500=2000x+y, so y=17500-2000x.

Therefore 12500-1000x=17500-2000x,

1000x=5000, x=5 and y=12500-5000=17500-10000=7500.

Fixed cost=5 and variable cost=7500.
