can be rewritten in the slope intercept form, y = mx + b, by subtracting 2x from both sides

y = -2x + 5

So the slope (m) is -2

and the y-intercept is 5.

I'm not sure what is meant by (3,1)?

However, it can be seen that this point does not lie on the line

since by inserting 3 for x and 1 for y

2 x 3 + 1

=7 

which doesn't equal 5 as per the original equation for the line.
