⅛x-⅓x+6=⅙x, multiply through by the LCD of 8, 3 and 6 =24.

3x-8x+144=4x,

144=4x-3x+8x=9x, so 9x=144, x=144/9=16.

Another way:

⅛x+6=(⅓+⅙)x=(2/6+1/6)x=(3/6)x=½x.

So we have ⅛x+6=½x. 6=½x-⅛x=(4/8-1/8)x=⅜x.

Now we have ⅜x=6, so x/8=6/3=2, x/8=2⇒x=8×2=16.
