I'm trying to help my daughter out with these 2 problems. I've been out of school for over 20 yrs and so I'm not really sure how to do this. I know it's easy for a lot of you but when your a parent that doesn't use this every day it's a bit confusing. Thank you for your help.

(-2)^4

8^2+11

I just need to be shown how the work was done in order to find the answer...
