Call the numbers a and b. So a+b=25. We also know b=2a+1. Substitute this value for b: a+2a+1=25, so 3a=24 and a=8. Therefore b=25-8=17. Check these numbers against the given conditions. They add up to 25 and 8 goes into 17 twice remainder 1.
