Applying this to the parabolae given:
y=a(x+3)^2+7; to find a, plug in the point: -5=a(-2+3)^2+7, a=-12, y=7-12(x+3)^2;
y=a(x-4)^2; plug in (-6,-3): -3=a(-10)^2, a=-0.03, y=-0.03(x-4)^2.
Both parabolae are inverted U shapes.
