line 1: 2x+5y=3    or 6x+15y=9

line 2: 5x-3y =23  or 25x -15y =115

line1 +line2  =(6x+25x) +(15y-15y)=124

31x=124

x=124/31

x=4

line 1...2x+5y=3, so y=(3-2x)/5=(3-8)/5

=-5/5....y=-1

=-1.1714285

elimination method: 2x+5y=3 + 5x-3y=23 = 3(2x+5y=3) + 5(5x-3y=23) = 6x+15y=9 + 25x-15y=115 = 31x+ 0y =124 31x =124 31x/31 = 124/31 x=124/31  x = 4
