find a common denominator. in this case, 24. 2/3 is equivilent to 16/24, 5/8 is equivilent to 15/24, and 5/24 remains the same. then just add the neumerators! 16+15+5=36, and 36/24, which is 3/2, which is 1 and 1/2.

First you have to find a common deenominator between all the fractions, then you add up the numerators and bring over the denominator. then you simplify if needed.

2/3 =   16/24         (2x8=16, 3x8=24)

5/8 =   15/24         (5x3=15, 8x3=24)

5/24 = 5/24          (5x1=5, 24x1=24)

= 36/24 = 1  1/2  (add up the numorators then simplify to lowest term, if needed)

just  add all the numerators and then all the denominaters and simplify if needed

Find a common denomenator and write that down next to it as the bottom number. An example would be 1/3 + 2/8. The denomenators would then be 24 because that is a number both go into. 3•8=24, 8•3=24. So then, the problem would be 8/24 + 3/24, which equals 11/24. I'm a fifth grader and even I know that.
