3x/8 - 3/4 = x/2

create a common denominator by multiplying 3/4 by 2/2 and x/2 by 4/4:

3x/8 - 6/8 = 4x/8

multiply through by 8:

3x - 6 = 4x

subtract 4x and add 6 to both sides:

-x = 6

multiply both sides by -1:

x = -6
