I thought I was getting it but it threw me off a bit when i came out with

-7v + -42 = 9v + 38    Since -7 x 6 = -42 wouldn't it be -7v - 42 or would it be -7v + -42?

Maybe I'm not doing it right at all...please help!

-7(v+6)=9v+38

-7v - 42 = 9v + 38

-7v - 9v = 38 + 42

-16v = 80

v = -5
