I'm having a hard time figuring my 7th graders homework problem. Its 'evaluate' re: fractions   the problem is   5/12-(-3 1/4) + (-6 1/2) - 3

(5/12) -(-3 1/4) + (-6 1/2)-3

=(5/12)+ (3 &1/4) - (6 1/2)-3

=(5/12)+ (39/12) -(6 1/2) -3

=(44/12)- (9 & 1/2)

=(11/3) -9.5

=22/6 -(57/6)

=-35/6

or -5.833333...
