if you are talking about absolute values then an example of one would look like this.

|x - 5|=4

an absolute valuse means that the value within the absolute value will always be positive. there can be a number of solutions. for this one if 'x' is 9 then it would be 4.

you can also have 'x' be 1 and then the -4 would change to 4 because of the absolute value.

(other examples)

|-4| = 4

|-453| = 453

|5| = 5
