rounding 5.36201 to 1 decimal place

All you need to look at is the value after the first decimal place.

i.e. the number after '3'

So 5.36201 rounded to 1 decimal place is 5.4  ,  since the number after the '3' is '6', you round the '3' up.        smiley

'5.36201 rounded to the first decimal place' will be 5.4  enlightened

this is because there is a general rule that numbers from 5 to 9 are rounded up to the next highest number. thus we need to look at the first 2 decimal places, 5.36

6 is higher than five, so it will be rounded up to 10. you cannot have a double digit number in a single decimal place, so you carry it over to the next one to the left, in this case being 3. 3 + 1 = 4, and hence we attain 5.4  :) ;)    yes
