Call,      3x - 2y = 10    ,  equation [1]

and

call,    - 6x + 6y = - 8   ,  equation [2]

Now you can multiply equation [1] by 2 ,

2(3x - 2y) = 2(10)

6x - 4y = 20

Now you can add the two equations,

- 6x + 6y = - 8

                          +

6x - 4y = 20

0x + 2y = 12

2y = 12

Now you can divide both sides of the equation by 2 , to find the value of 'y' ,

(2y)/2 = 12/2

y = 6

So now you can put , y = 6 , into any one of the original equations

( i.e. into equation [1] or [2] )

I will chose equation [1],

3x - 2y = 10

3x - 2(6) = 10

3x - 12 = 10

3x - 12 + 12 = 10 + 12

3x = 22

(3x)/3 = 22/3

x = 22/3

So the solutions for these equations are:     y = 6 and x = 22/3
