3a+12=6a-24

3a-3a+12=6a-3a-24               minus 3a off both sides

12=3a-24 or 3a-24=12

3a-24+24=12+24                    add 24 to both sides

3a=36

3a/3=36/3                                   divide both sides by 3

a=36/3

a=12
