2x + 3y = 17 --- (1)
3x + 4y = 24 --- (2)

From (2), we have:

4y = 24 - 3x
y = 6 - (3/4)x --- (3)

Substituting (3) into (1), we will get:

2x + 3(6 - (3/4)x) = 17
2x + 18 - (9/4)x = 17
8x + 72 - 9x = 68
9x - 8x = 72 - 68
x = 4

Substituting x = 4 into (3), we will get:

y = 6 - (3/4)(4)
y = 6 - 3
y = 3

Hence, we have:

5x + 7y
= 5(4) + 7(3)
= 20 + 21
= 41
