1-5p-4p=-15-7p.

Simplify the left-hand side. Combine -5p and -4p into -9p.

1-9p=-15-7p.

We now need to get the unknown p values on to one side of the equation and the numbers on to the other side.

Add 9p to each side:

1+0=-15-7p+9p, which simplifies to:

1=-15+2p because 9p-7p=2p.

Now add 15 to each side: 16=2p.

We can halve each side: 8=p, so p=8 is the answer.
