slope-intercept form: the equation of a straight line in the form y = mx + b where m is the slope of the line and b is its y-intercept .

y-(-3)=7/4(x-5)

y+3=7/4x-35/4

y=7/4x-35/4-3

y=7/4x-47/4

Step 1:  Write the original equation.

  1. y-(-3) = 7/4 (X-5)

Step 2:  Distribute the 7/4 (and change the y-(-3)).

       2.  y+3 = 7/4X - 35/4

Step 3:  Subtract 3 from both sides (change it into the common fraction 12/4).

       3.  y = 7/4X  -35/4 - 12/4  -47/4        --->           -35/4 - 12/4 = -47/4

Step 4:  Final, simplified equation in slope-intercept form.

       4.  y = 7/4X - 47/4
