3x2-12x-24=3(x2-4x-8).

It can be factorised further, but this involves irrational factors.

Consider x2-4x-8=0:

x2-4x=8,

x2-4x+4=8+4=12,

(x-2)2=12,

x-2=±√12=±2√3, x=2+2√3 or 2-2√3.

So the factorisation becomes 3(x-2-2√3)(x-2+2√3).
