There are 8 yellow toys and 5 robots, 3 of which are yellow.

(1) The probability of selecting a yellow toy=8/14=4/7.

(2) The probability of selecting a robot=5/14.

(3) The probability of selecting a yellow robot=3/14.

We have to avoid counting a robot twice, because some robots are yellow toys, so:

First add (1) an (2)=13/14 and then subtract (3)=10/14=5/7.

The probability of selecting either a yellow toy or a robot=5/7.
