Hypothesis testing is a useful tool in determining whether or not to consider revising a statistic. It is only an indicative test so care must be taken in jumping to a false conclusion. However, it is useful for further investigating an alternative hypothesis if revision of a statistic appears to be demanded because the null hypothesis has been rejected. Hypothesis testing can be the driver in pursuing deeper research.
