Problem with interest

There is an odd inconsistency in this problem.

"The veteran player is currently 40 years old" appears as "The veteran player is ... 8 million annually" before the question is opened to reveal the details. So "... 8 million annually" is omitted in favour of "currently 40 years old". Which phrase has relevance, or are both relevant?

I don't think the 40 years old part is relevant to the problem. The information that is relevant is the 9 million dollars and the team acquiring two players at 3.8 million. The market rate of interest is 12%.

OK, but what about the 8 million annually? Is that relevant, and if so, why doesn't it appear in the details?

OK. What about the $8M annually for the veteran? Is that on-going while new players are being paid for? And is it the same two players each year, or is it two different players each year? Is the $9M from the veteran forthcoming each year, or is it a one-off? Please clarify the problem so that it's mathematically defined concisely and does not require knowledge of how sports consultants (particularly in US sports) are expected to work. In other words, to solve the problem, some background information is necessary.
