Mahmoud and Miriam’s recipe uses a ratio of 3 parts pistachios to 1 part walnuts. If their recipe calls for 8 pounds of nuts, how much can they expect to pay, in dollars?

The recipe would require  6 pounds of pistachios and 2 pounds of walnuts (3:1=6:2)

If $x  is the cost of one pound of pistachios and $y is the cost of one pound of walnuts ,

then the total cost would be=$(6x+2y)
