-4/5 times -20

= (- 4/5) × (- 20)

So since,     20 = 20/1

 (- 4/5) × (- 20)

= (- 4/5) x (- 20/1)

= (- 4 × - 20) / (5 × 1)

And since a negative multiplied by a negative equals a positive:

(- 4 × - 20) / (5 × 1)

= (4 × 20) / (5 × 1)

= 80 / 5

This fraction can then be simplified as 80 and 5 both have a common factor (common factor = number that they both can be divided by).

Their common factor is 5.

So:

80 / 5

= (16 × 5) / (1 × 5)

Now we can cancel out the 5's . So the fraction becomes:

(16 × 5) / (1 × 5)

= 16/1

= 16

So -4/5 times -20 equals 16 .    smiley
