Worded, it's this. Eleven is the midpoint of a segment determined by two numbers, one of which is three. Find the other number.
To find the midpoint you take the average of the two numbers which would be 3 plus x ... then divide by two which is 3 plus x / 2 = 11. But where am I going wrong ?

11=(3+x)/2, 3+x=22, x=19. You were right!
