-0.4=g/3-0.9 could mean -0.4=(g/3)-0.9, so g/3=0.9-0.4=0.5 and g=3×0.5=1.5;

or it could mean -0.4=g/(3-0.9)=g/2.1, so g=-0.4×2.1=-0.84.
