 Statement              Reason

1. -2y+3/2=8            Given

2. -2y=8-3/2=13/2 Subtraction property of equality and simple subtraction of 3/2 from 8

3. -y=13/4                Division property of equality—divide each side by 2

4. y=-13/4               Multiplication property of equality—multiply each side by -1. This is what we were asked to prove in the if...then conditional statement.
