Second equation can be simplified by dividing through by 4: x-y=4, so x=y+4 and we can substitute in the first equation to find y: 3(y+4)+7y=22. 3y+12+7y=22, 10y=10 so y=1 and x=y+4=5. Solution is x=5 and y=1.
