You haven’t said what the scale of the map is. My guess is that 1mm on the map represents 3 miles.

Therefore 48mm=3×48=144 miles.

If the scale is 1:5,000,000 then 48 mm represents 240,000,000mm=240km=149 miles approx.

So the distance between the cities is around 144-149 miles.
