144=3x²+18x+24, divide through by 3: 48=x²+6x+8, x²+6x-40=0=(x+10)(x-4).

So x=-10 or 4.

OR

Divide the original equation by 3:

48=(x+4)(x+2)=x²+6x+8, ...
