you are applying fertilizer to a football field. The field is 360 feet long and 160 feet wide. You use 8 pounds of fertilizer per 1000 ft.². The fertilizer comes in 50 pound bags. How many bags of fertilizer will you need to complete the job?

Area of field is 360×160=57600 sq ft.

The field needs 57600/1000×8=460.8 lbs of fertiliser.

The number of bags of fertiliser=460.8/50=9.216 so 10 bags are needed (500lb). 39.2lbs of fertiliser are unused.
