x+y=2200 so y=2200-x (counting people)

1.5x+4y=5050 (counting money)

Substitute for y: 1.5x+4(2200-x)=5050.

1.5x+8800-4x=5050.

8800-5050=4x-1.5x.

3750=2.5x, x=3750/2.5=37500/25=1500. So y=2200-1500=700.

There were 700 adults and 1500 children.
