Let p is the age of Paul  and c is the age of Ciara today.

We have p=c+8  after 8 years it will be; p+8+c+8=58 --->>>  c+8+8+c+8=58 --->>> 2c+24=58 --->>>

2c=58-24   --->>>  2c=34  so c=34/2=17 so Paul is today 17+8=25 years old
