Question

Four cities lie along a straight highway in this order: A, B, C, D. The distance from A to B is 5 times the distance from B to C. The distance from A to D is 2 times the distance from A to B. Copy and complete the mileage chart. You can ook in the book, o online for this page, and the chart. I'm sorry I do not know how to make the chart on the computer, and I am confused a bit. Also, C to D is 10 mi.

Let distance from B to C be x.

Distance from A to B is thus 5x.

Distance from A to D is 10x.

Distance from C to D
= Distance from A to D - Distance from A to B - Distance from B to C
= 10x - 5x - x
= 4x

4x = 10 miles
x = 10 / 4 miles
x = 2.5 miles

Distance from A to B = 5x = 5(2.5) = 12.5 miles

Distance from B to C = x = 2.5 miles

Distance from C to D = 10 miles (given)
