we have 3y+5=x (1)  and  x=y+1 (2) we substitute to the (1) where x=y+1 and we get 3y+5=y+1 ---->>>

3y-y=1-5  ---->>>  2y=-4   so  y=-4/2 = -2  putting this value of y to the (2) we get  x=-2+1=-1
