If f(x)=3|x|-1 and g(x)=0.03x^3-x+1 then f(x)=g(x) means 3|x|-1=0.03x^3-x+1, 0.03x^3-4x+2=0 if x>0 and 0.03x^3+2x+2=0 if x<0. If x>0 x=11.29 approx; if x<0 x=-0.99 approx. So (2) 11.29 seems to be a possible solution. (I have guessed at where -, + and equals are in the functions.)
