Problem: i need help
finde the slope, midpoint, and distance (-7,0) and (1,6)
The slope is the change in y divided by the change in x.
delta y: 6 - 0 = 6
delta x: 1 - (-7) = 8
slope: 6/8 = 3/4
The midpoint is found by dividing the changes in x and y by 2,
then adding that to the co-ordinates of the left endpoint.
y: 6/2 + 0 = 3 + 0 = 3
x: 8/2 + (-7) = 4 - 7 = -3
midpoint: (-3, 3)
Distance is the hypotenuse of the triangle formed by drawing a
horizontal line from the left endpoint to a point directly under
or over the right endpoint. We already calculated the lengths of
those two sides, 6 and 8. Use the Pythagorean Theorem.
c^2 = a^2 + b^2
c^2 = 6^2 + 8^2
c^2 = 36 + 64
c^2 = 100
c = sqrt(100)
c = 10
Answers: slope = 3; midpoint = (-3, 3); distance between the points = 10
