5^2.4799-4^2.4799=23.00 approx., so x=2.4799 approx.(Problem assumed to be (5)^x-(4)^x=23.)

Other possible solutions:

(5)^x-(4)^(1/x)=23=(5)^2-(4)^(1/2)=25-2=23 so x=2 exactly.

(5)^x-(4)^-x=23=(5)^1.95-(4)^-1.95, x=1.95 approx.

If your question is

5 - 4 = 23, 8 - 1 = 63, 6 -16 = 32, 9 - 9 = 78, 3 - 9 = 6, 3 - 81 =?

The answer to the end one is zero. It seems to be that you square the first number and subtract the square root of the second, that's why the second numbers are always perfect squares.

3-81=0
