(2+7+y)/3=4 so 9+y=12 and y=3. (2+7+x+y)/4=5, so 9+x+y=20, x+y=11 and x=11-y=8. I think it was x you wanted, wasn't it? We calculated y earlier. Average and mean are the same thing.
