  1. Questionnaire will help to identify how many different fruits.
  2. Questionnaires can ask people to put fruits in order of preference.
  3. Count how many of each fruit are listed #1. These represent the most favourite fruit.
  4. Fruits can be served in different ways, so the questionnaire may need to ask about these, too, e.g., strawberry cheesecake, lemon meringue, banana split, peach melba, raspberry pavlova, etc. But be careful! The fruit has to be the dominant feature.
  5. Fruit salads or mixtures should be omitted, because it would be ambiguous and confusing.
  6. Make sure enough data is returned. If not, it may be necessary to interview.
  7. You could observe which fruits (and how much) are purchased at supermarkets and grocery stores, given that a large choice is available (limited varieties would not provide significant results). Such observation may be difficult to carry out in practice.
  8. Define the range and scope of the survey: children in a school; townspeople, age group (children may favour different fruits to adults); regional; national. The greater the number of people the more data needs to be collected. Several surveys throughout the year may be necessary to compensate for seasonal variation.
  9. The data needs to be manageable and direct, closed questions are best. Open questions are difficult to analyse. Yes/no answers or numerical answers (rating, for example) are preferable (e.g., scoring out of 5 or 10, or graduation: least to most, etc.).

These are just a few ideas.
