Problem: square miles
if one side of a square is 1/4" and 1/4" equals 5 miles, how many square miles does each square represent when there are 49 squares?

You have stated that the side of one square represents 5 miles. Therefore, the square
represents 5 mi * 5 mi = 25 sq mi.

It doesn't matter how many squares there are, ONE SQUARE represents 25 sq mi.
