Problem: How to solve -2x+5y=8 and 2x+2y=6
Math problem

Add the equations to eliminate the x term.

  -2x + 5y = 8
+( 2x + 2y = 6)
-----------------
        7y = 14
7y = 14
y = 2

Plug that into one of the equations to solve for x.

2x + 2y = 6
2x + 2(2) = 6
2x + 4 = 6
2x = 2
x = 1

Check them.

-2x + 5y = 8
-2(1) + 5(2) = 8
-2 + 10 = 8
8 = 8

Answer: x = 1, y = 2
